About IOM TCC
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) started as an intergovernmental organization to resettle European displaced persons, refugees and migrants in 1951. After half a century of worldwide operational experience, IOM has grown to encompass a variety of migration management activities throughout the world.
The Technical Cooperation Centre (TCC) was established in 1997 as part of
IOM's Mission in Vienna to assist governments and other relevant actors in developing and implementing comprehensive, cooperative and ultimately self-reliant systems for managing migration processes and migratory flows in the countries of Eastern Europe and Central Asia (EECA).
TCC Activities
TCC serves as IOM's regional clearinghouse for migration-related strategies and center of expertise for the EECA region (the CIS). It assists 11 IOM missions in: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russian Federation, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Ukraine by providing and facilitating research, programme design and implementation support, and identifying regional migration experts. In addition, TCC provides a unifying mechanism for information exchange among the region's field missions and ensures a cross-fertilization of material, expertise and best international practices among the programmes.
TCC also acts as the focal point within IOM for the Follow-up to the 1996 Geneva Conference on the Problems of Refugees, Displaced Persons, Migration and Asylum Issues in the CIS. Together with the CIS Conference's implementing partners OSCE and UNHCR, the Centre ensures CIS strategic development for migration management activities, which include combating irregular migration as well as other areas of migration management.
