Tajikistan - Tajik FM, IOM’s regional representative discuss migrant rights protection issues

Prospects of further expansion of cooperation between Tajikistan and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) were a focus of a meeting of Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi with IOM’s Regional Representative for Central Asia, Mr. Abdul Monem Mustafa, that was held in Dushanbe on April 15, according to the Tajik MFA.

In the course of the talks, the two pointed out a fruitful development of cooperation between the Government of Tajikistan and IOM in protecting rights of migrants and providing necessary assistance to them.

Both sides confirmed their readiness to continue taking efforts to raise awareness level of labor migrants and enhance their skills in accordance with the migration and employment legislation as well as requirements of labor markets in transit and destination countries, according to the MFA.

Tajik minister and IOM’s regional representative also discussed issues related to improvement of a border management system and expansion of cooperation in combating human trafficking.
